San Francisco: (RightNow) Marathon Fusion, a US-based company, claims to have transformed mercury into gold. According to the company, this feat was achieved using nuclear fusion technology, which operates at a speed 10 times faster than CERN’s scientific record.

The company states that they have converted mercury into gold’s basic atomic element with the help of neutrons. However, they have not disclosed the final quantity of gold produced.

Officials at Marathon Fusion express that they do not intend to limit this technology to precious metal production. Their aim is to produce medical isotopes used in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

This process is conducted through nuclear transmutation rather than chemical interaction. It involves altering the nucleus of an atom, which results in mercury being transformed into gold.

It is noteworthy that in May 2025, CERN scientists confirmed the production of gold nuclei through the collision of lead nuclei. Marathon Fusion has chosen the path of creating gold from mercury using nuclear fusion.
