Karachi: (RightNow) The mortality rate from heart diseases among women in Pakistan is the highest among five South Asian countries. Health experts reveal that high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity are increasing cardiovascular risks for women.

On World Heart Day, the ‘Her Heart Matters’ campaign was launched at the Karachi Press Club. This initiative, supported by the Pakistan Cardiac Society and other organizations, aims to raise awareness about timely diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases in women.

Experts state that heart diseases in women are often overlooked, especially during pregnancy and childbirth, where special attention is crucial. Professor Dr. Taheen Abbas emphasized the importance of medical monitoring during and after pregnancy.

Professor Dr. Haleema Yasmeen reported that approximately 4% of pregnant women at her clinic were diagnosed with heart diseases. This highlights pregnancy as a critical opportunity for early detection of heart conditions.

It is noteworthy that in 2021, the age-standardized mortality rate from ischemic heart disease among women in Pakistan was higher than in other South Asian countries.
