New York: (RightNow) China has urged the United Nations General Assembly to respect the sovereignty and security of the Middle East, particularly the Gulf countries. Chinese Vice President Han Zheng called for an end to threats and sanctions against Cuba without directly naming the United States.

China indirectly criticized U.S. policies, emphasizing the respect for Gulf countries’ sovereignty and opposing sanctions on Cuba. Han Zheng’s statement should be viewed in the context of Washington’s increasing pressure on Cuba.

Han Zheng reminded major powers of their responsibility to safeguard global peace and stressed the importance of adhering to international laws. According to him, China’s stance is that the sovereignty of all Middle Eastern countries should be respected.

These statements come at a time when reports mention Beijing’s military assistance to Iran and Tehran’s efforts to evade sanctions with China’s help.

It is noteworthy that recent power failures in Cuba have affected millions. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has also called for an end to U.S. sanctions on Cuba.
