New York: (RightNow) YouTube has launched a new feature for smart TV users to ensure their privacy protection. The account lock feature secures individual profiles with a four-digit code.

With this feature, users can protect their profiles from unauthorized access. Google states the feature aims to safeguard personal video recommendations on shared home TVs.

The new feature is introduced globally for most smart TVs, streaming devices, and game consoles. Users won’t need to enter the code via TV remote each time, as unlocking can also be done through the mobile app.

The account lock feature is introduced in response to YouTube’s increasing television usage. It advises users not to share profiles with others to keep personal information secure.

It is noteworthy that YouTube has introduced various changes to enhance the smart TV experience. Neal Mohan stated in 2025 that the number of YouTube viewers on television exceeds mobile users.
