Kathmandu: (RightNow) In the wake of recent floods in Nepal, rescue workers are actively searching tunnels for missing persons. An engineers’ WhatsApp group is assisting in understanding the complex tunnel systems.

On August 26, a sudden flood in the Trishuli River caused widespread devastation. The engineers’ WhatsApp group, comprising over 500 members, is proving instrumental in rescue operations.

According to authorities, approximately 900 people are missing from six hydropower projects. Access to tunnels is challenging as the flood has blocked routes.

This WhatsApp group is providing maps to rescue workers, aiding in locating tunnel paths. The Nepal Electricity Authority reports that some individuals may be trapped in the tunnels.

It is noteworthy that the recent floods in Nepal have resulted in over 1,200 deaths and more than 4,000 missing. This has impacted 10% of the country’s electricity generation capacity.
