Qantas cancels Rome to Perth flight due to bedbugs, offers passengers accommodation and alternative flights.
Rome: (RightNow) On October 9, bedbugs were discovered on a Qantas flight from Rome to Perth. The incident occurred in the economy section of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, forcing the aircraft to return to Rome.
According to Italian media, the October 10 flight was canceled and the plane was taken for cleaning. A Qantas spokesperson stated that the cancellation allowed for thorough cleaning to completely resolve the bedbug issue.
The company apologized to affected passengers, offering them accommodation and alternative flights. It remains unclear how the bedbugs got on the plane, but they may have arrived via passengers’ luggage or clothing.
This incident highlights the importance of hygiene and cleanliness in air travel. The presence of bedbugs poses a risk to passengers and can impact the airline’s reputation.
It is important to note that bedbugs typically hide in beds and furniture, feeding on human blood. They are difficult to eliminate and can spread from homes to airplanes.
