Karachi: (RightNow) An unexpected increase in cotton production has been observed. Improved weather conditions have enhanced the quality and quantity of local cotton, potentially reducing cotton imports.

According to Ehsan-ul-Haq, Chairman of the Cotton Ginners Forum, by August 31, deliveries to ginning factories nationwide increased by 27%, equating to 1.696 million bales. This increase was recorded in factories in Punjab and Sindh.

Reports indicate that Punjab factories produced 557,000 bales, while Sindh factories produced 1.139 million bales. Textile mills purchased 975,000 bales, a 34% increase compared to last year.

Ehsan-ul-Haq stated that improved weather conditions and lower temperatures have enhanced per-acre cotton yield. This has also improved cotton quality, which could positively impact the national economy.

It is noteworthy that a decrease in cotton production was reported in Rahim Yar Khan, while the highest cotton yield was recorded in Sanghar district, Sindh. The PCGA has expressed concern over the trend of mixing cotton waste.
