Ireland: (RightNow) A new study reveals that light walking for 2 to 5 minutes after meals reduces blood sugar and insulin levels. This practice lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Researchers at the University of Limerick analyzed 7 reports. Five reports included individuals without type 2 diabetes or blood sugar issues, while two involved diabetic patients. Participants were instructed to stand or walk for 2 to 5 minutes every 20 to 30 minutes throughout the day.

Researchers stated that walking, doing household chores, or any physical activity within 60 to 90 minutes after eating provides optimal health benefits. The study’s findings were published in the journal Sports Medicine.

It is clear that blood sugar levels rise after meals, while insulin controls blood sugar. Walking helps muscles use glucose, reducing blood sugar levels.

Remember that consuming ultra-processed foods and artificially sweetened drinks increases the risk of depression. Excessive sugar intake can also worsen asthma severity.
