New York: (RightNow) Johnson & Johnson offers $5.5 billion to settle lawsuits in the U.S. related to talcum powder. These lawsuits are based on allegations that the company’s products caused cancer in women.

The company stated that this offer applies to 69,000 cases. Johnson & Johnson will pay $3 billion next year, with the remaining amount to be paid by 2028.

The company has dismissed the allegations as unfounded, asserting that its products do not cause cancer. The Vice President of Legal Affairs stated that the settlement is in the company’s best interest.

The agreement will only be finalized if 95% of the claimants’ legal firms approve it. The company aims to focus on its core responsibilities.

It is noteworthy that lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson regarding talcum powder began in 2009. In 2022, the company announced it would cease the production of talcum powder.
