Kuwait City: (RightNow) Recent Iranian attacks have endangered Gulf water plants. Kuwait accuses Iran of targeting a water plant again, raising serious concerns about water supply in Gulf countries.

The Gulf region already faces severe water scarcity. The climate is hot and dry, with minimal rainfall. According to the Gulf Research Center, 90% of the region’s water sources are derived from underground or desalinated seawater.

In recent years, environmental changes have further reduced underground water supplies. Consequently, Gulf countries rely more on desalination plants for fresh water.

It is important to note that over 400 water plants in Gulf countries supply water to this driest region of the world. Attacks on these plants could severely impact the area’s economy and livelihood.

Remember, during the 1990-1991 Gulf War, Iraqi forces destroyed Kuwait’s water plants, causing significant damage to the water supply.
