Islamabad: (Right Now News) Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Company is facing a loss exceeding 29 billion rupees. This revelation comes from the Auditor General of Pakistan’s report.

According to the report, the project suffered a loss of 99 billion rupees due to the power house closure. Investigations into the collapse of the head race and tail race tunnels remain incomplete.

The report states that the company’s financial performance has been deteriorating since 2022-23. Power generation was suspended from July 2022 to August 2023 due to the tail race tunnel collapse.

Since May 1, 2024, the power house has been closed, and additional repair costs for both tunnels have increased the financial burden. The project’s financial difficulties are exacerbated by the lack of approval for the reference tariff from NEPRA.

It should be noted that insurance claims for damages caused by accidents have not been obtained. The Auditor General has recommended completing pending investigations and restoring the power house.
