Tehran: (Right Now News) The funeral procession of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has departed from Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla towards Qom. Millions of mourners have gathered on the streets of Tehran.

According to Iranian officials, Ayatollah Khamenei’s body will be taken to the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq after Qom. A large number of people will pay their last respects there.

The administration has stated that the funeral will pass through major streets of Tehran and will last approximately ten to twelve hours. It will pass through Azadi Street and Shahid Lashgari Highway.

This historic funeral is considered the largest public gathering in the country’s modern history. The Iranian President and political and military leadership are also participating.

It is noteworthy that Ayatollah Khamenei and his family were martyred in a joint attack in February. Their burial will take place in Mashhad on July 9.
