Islamabad: (Right Now News) Pakistan lacks a formal rabies monitoring system, resulting in nearly 5,000 deaths annually.
The CEO of The Indus Hospital and Health Network met with Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal. They discussed immediate national measures for rabies prevention and effective control.
The delegation briefed on the current rabies situation in Pakistan, highlighting the absence of an effective national monitoring system. Estimates indicate around 5,000 deaths occur annually due to rabies.
The briefing revealed that millions of dog bite incidents are reported yearly, with children and underprivileged populations in rural and suburban areas being most affected.
It is noteworthy that Mustafa Kamal expressed concern over the rising rabies burden in Pakistan and approved the preparation of a National Rabies Prevention and Control Framework. A National Technical Working Advisory Group will also be formed.
