The government announced that by December 31, strong safety walls must be constructed for kite flying. Roofs without walls at least 3.5 feet high will be prohibited from kite flying.
Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi stated that relevant departments have been instructed to ensure compliance with the regulations. The Deputy Commissioner of Lahore has been ordered to inspect unsafe buildings.
To prevent accidents during Basant, the City Traffic Police will install free safety rods on over 2 million motorcycles. The government has urged citizens to adhere to the laws.
It is noteworthy that due to kite flying accidents, Basant was banned in Punjab for a long time. Last year, the festival was celebrated in Lahore after 20 years.
