Islamabad: (RightNow) Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has raised questions about Babar Azam’s place in the ODI team. The team management is considering excluding him from the format.

Shoaib Akhtar, speaking on a national TV program, stated that the team management is also contemplating Babar Azam’s position. He clarified that he does not intend to create controversy but emphasized that Babar must prove his suitability through performance.

Shoaib Akhtar mentioned the challenges posed by Aaqib Javed in 50-over cricket, stating that fulfilling batting and bowling responsibilities will be difficult. He expressed hope that his concerns would be proven wrong.

Babar Azam scored his last ODI century against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi in November 2025, marking his 20th century, while his last Test century was in December 2022.

It is noteworthy that the Pakistan Cricket Board has included Babar Azam in the squad for the tri-nation ODI series against England and Sri Lanka. The series begins on Sunday in Rawalpindi.
