New York: (RightNow) A Hurricane Hunter aircraft flew into the center of the powerful Hurricane Polo. This mission was conducted by NOAA experts on September 22 to assess the storm’s intensity and wind speed.

The aircraft navigated winds of approximately 266 km/h. Upon entering the storm’s ‘eye wall,’ the plane experienced severe turbulence.

After crossing the eye wall, the aircraft reached the storm’s ‘eye,’ where conditions were relatively calm. This phenomenon is known as the ‘stadium effect.’

It is clear that Polo’s intensity has reached Category 5. This level of intensity can cause severe damage to buildings and trees.

Remember, this mission provides data not obtainable from the ground. These statistics aid in better weather forecasting.
