Ishaq Dar emphasizes the importance of keeping the Kashmir issue on the global agenda at the OIC meeting.
New York: (RightNow) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has called on the OIC to prioritize the Kashmir issue on the global agenda during a meeting in New York. He stated that the Jammu and Kashmir conflict has been unresolved for 8 decades and a sustainable solution is possible through dialogue and diplomacy.
Ishaq Dar emphasized at the OIC Contact Group meeting that the OIC should transform its principled solidarity into effective diplomatic action. He noted that Pakistan values the OIC’s continuous support for the Kashmiri people.
He mentioned that since August 5, 2019, India’s actions have attempted to alter the demographic and political status of occupied Kashmir. Kashmiri leaders and activists face arrests.
It is important to note that the Kashmir issue poses a threat to regional peace and security. Ishaq Dar stated that military power is not the solution to longstanding political disputes, and diplomacy is the only way forward.
The Deputy Prime Minister urged the OIC and member states to maintain a united stance on the Kashmir issue at international forums. He called on India to reverse its illegal actions taken after August 5, 2019.
