Amsterdam: (RightNow) The Netherlands Central Bank has transferred a significant portion of its gold reserves from North America to London. This move is in preparation for global political uncertainties and potential crises.

According to the central bank, 86 metric tons of gold were moved from New York and Ottawa to London between March and August. After the transfer, the gold share at both locations remains at 18.5%.

Bank Governor Olaf Sleijpen stated that the transfer makes the gold reserves more easily tradable. He further emphasized the necessity of preparing for crises.

The gold stored in London meets modern global trading standards and can be rapidly utilized in emergencies.

It is noteworthy that the Netherlands’ 612.4 metric tons of gold were valued at $83.6 billion at the end of 2025. The transfer aims to improve preparedness rather than indicate an immediate financial crisis.
