Zawiya: (RightNow) A drone attack on Libya’s Zawiya Oil Refinery has ignited a massive fire. Authorities report ongoing efforts to control the blaze, with no casualties reported so far.
Libya’s ambulance and emergency services state that most individuals are affected by smoke inhalation. Zawiya Refinery is Libya’s largest operational oil refinery, processing 120,000 barrels of oil daily.
The National Oil Corporation reports the fire erupted in a tank owned by Brega Oil Company, containing 4.5 million liters of petrol, leading to the incident.
It is noteworthy that Zawiya Refinery has previously been targeted by drone attacks. The National Oil Corporation has declared a heightened state of emergency and called for an investigation.
The NOC warns that further attacks could lead to a force majeure declaration, potentially halting refinery operations.
