Gilgit: (RightNow) The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly has unanimously approved a resolution for interim provincial status. The session was chaired by Deputy Speaker Malik Kifayat-ur-Rehman, and the resolution was presented by Assembly Member Syed Jalal Shah.

The resolution bears signatures from several government and opposition members. It proposes making Gilgit-Baltistan an interim province through constitutional amendment. Additionally, it demands effective national representation and equal constitutional rights.

The resolution clarifies that the interim provincial status will not affect Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue. It will also not conflict with United Nations resolutions.

The federal government is recommended to initiate constitutional, legal, and administrative measures. An NFC Award for Gilgit-Baltistan is also suggested.

It is noteworthy that the demand for fair share in national resources by the people of Gilgit-Baltistan has been longstanding. The approval of this resolution is a significant step towards regional rights.
