Qatar has demanded the US relocate Afghan refugees by 2026 under a temporary agreement.
Doha: (Right Now News) Qatar has demanded that the United States relocate Afghan refugees currently in Doha by September 29, 2026. This agreement was initially made on a temporary basis.
According to diplomatic documents, both countries have agreed to extend this agreement until 2026. Qatar has clarified that this agreement cannot be permanent.
The agreement concerns Afghan citizens who were evacuated after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021. They are currently housed near Doha at ‘Camp Al Sayliyah’.
Currently, there are over 1,100 Afghan refugees in the camp awaiting resettlement in the US or other countries. Qatar has urged the US to determine the legal status of all individuals.
It should be noted that Camp Al Sayliyah was used as a major transit center during the US withdrawal in 2021. The agreement was initially made in 2023 and has now been extended.
