Islamabad: (Right Now News) High-level talks between US and Iranian officials have commenced in Islamabad, Pakistan. The aim is to halt the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and pave the way for a broader political agreement.

Iran has stated that progress on two fundamental issues is necessary before formal negotiations begin. Tehran views a ceasefire in Lebanon and practical easing of sanctions on Iran as initial conditions.

The situation in Lebanon is among the most sensitive topics in the talks. Iran argues that Israeli attacks in Lebanon are part of the same conflict, while the US and Israel disagree with this stance.

Iran is also demanding the release of its frozen assets and the lifting of economic sanctions. The US indicates that significant easing of sanctions is only possible if Iran makes substantial concessions on its nuclear and missile programs.

It is important to note that the Islamabad talks are not limited to a ceasefire. Discussions revolve around sanctions, nuclear programs, missile capabilities, Lebanon, the Strait of Hormuz, and the balance of power in the region.
