Islamabad: (Right Now News) High-level talks between US and Iranian officials took place in Islamabad. This meeting is considered a significant development in relations between the two countries since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

This is the first direct meeting between representatives of both nations since 2015. Previously, a nuclear agreement was reached, which was terminated by US President Donald Trump in 2018, escalating tensions.

Following the agreement’s termination, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei banned direct negotiations with the US. The recent meeting is seen as a hopeful step towards improving diplomatic relations.

The meeting is crucial due to the long history of relations between the two countries. In 1951, Iran’s nationalization of oil resources led to conflicts with Western powers.

It should be noted that since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, relations between the two countries have been tense. The 1980 US embassy takeover in Tehran and economic sanctions in the 1990s further strained relations.
