Pakistan decides not to participate in the Over-50 Cricket World Cup in India, making title defense impossible.
Islamabad: (RightNow) Pakistan decides not to participate in the Over-50 Cricket World Cup in India next year. This decision means the national veterans team cannot defend its global title.
The event is scheduled from January 23 to February 7, 2027, in Hyderabad, Deccan. Pakistan won the world champion title in Sri Lanka in 2025. Due to lack of government permission, the defending champions will not compete.
Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association’s General Secretary Irfan Ahmed stated that India assured visas and security. The association formally sought permission from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior.
Chairman Fawad Ijaz said PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the government did not permit participation. The association respected the government’s decision and announced withdrawal from the event.
It is noteworthy that Over-50 cricket involves players over 50 years old. Pakistan succeeded in the 2025 edition. This format allows former experienced players to compete at a national level.
