Punjab imposes Section 144 due to terror threats, banning public gatherings and weapon displays, with certain exemptions.
Lahore: (RightNow) Due to threats from terrorist organizations targeting public gatherings, Section 144 is imposed in Punjab for 10 days.
A Punjab Home Department spokesperson stated that law enforcement and intelligence agencies have received threat reports. These reports indicate that terrorist organizations are planning to target public gatherings.
In light of serious threats to public safety and property, this measure is taken. According to the notification, gatherings of 5 or more people in public places are banned from October 6 to 15.
Carrying and displaying weapons in public places is also prohibited. Inciting or encouraging participation in illegal gatherings is banned. Weddings, funerals, mosques, and other places of worship are exempt from the ban.
It is noted that courts, government institutions, and officially permitted events are exempt from the ban. Law enforcement agencies, intelligence agencies, and security personnel are not subject to the ban.
