Pakistan’s public debt has increased by 340% over the last decade, reaching Rs 86,700 billion, according to the Finance Ministry’s report.
Islamabad: (RightNow) Pakistan’s public debt has surged by 340% over the past 10 years. The Federal Ministry of Finance report reveals that public debt increased from Rs 19,700 billion to Rs 86,700 billion.
According to the report, there has been an increase of Rs 67,000 billion in the last decade. In June 2016, public debt was Rs 19,700 billion, which has now reached Rs 86,700 billion.
The Ministry of Finance states that by 2026, domestic debt stood at Rs 59,400 billion and foreign debt at Rs 27,300 billion. In 2016, domestic debt was Rs 13,600 billion and foreign debt was Rs 6,100 billion.
In June 2017, the debt reached Rs 21,400 billion and in June 2018, it rose to Rs 24,900 billion. Similarly, in June 2019, it was recorded at Rs 32,700 billion and in June 2020, at Rs 36,400 billion.
It is noteworthy that by June 2021, public debt had reached Rs 39,900 billion, increasing the burden on the national economy.
