Islamabad: (RightNow) NEPRA has proposed new grid sharing charges for tall buildings and industrial users. Under this proposal, owners of buildings requiring transformers over 500 kVA will pay charges.

Pakistan’s electricity regulator has also suggested allowing industrial users to obtain multiple connections for up to 15 megawatts of electricity. NEPRA has invited public feedback on proposed amendments to the Consumer Service Manual for this purpose.

According to NEPRA, charges for industrial and steel furnace users will be revised, and rules for temporary electricity disconnection will be tightened. The period for issuing detection bills in electricity theft cases may be extended to 12 months.

These changes will apply to buildings requiring transformers over 500 kVA. Under current laws, ground plus three-story buildings are excluded from the tall buildings category, so charges do not apply to them.

It is noteworthy that NEPRA’s actions aim to improve energy management and prevent electricity theft. The proposed amendments intend to ensure fair distribution and use of electricity.
