Washington: (RightNow) NASA scientists have discovered a new 728-foot-wide crater on the Moon. This crater formed on the Moon’s eastern edge between April 11 and May 22, 2024.

NASA scientist Robert Wagner identified the crater through analysis of lunar surface images. According to his research, this is the largest new crater in the solar system to date.

NASA has named the crater after scientist McGetchin. It spans the length of two football fields and forms on the Moon’s surface once in a century.

Experts say this discovery is crucial for studying the Moon’s geological structure and understanding the evolution of the solar system.

It is noteworthy that NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has been orbiting the Moon for over 17 years, conducting various research tasks.
