The Indian cricket team refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, escalating political tensions.
New Delhi: (RightNow) During the Women’s Asia Cup, the Indian cricket team refused to accept the trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had already informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that the Indian team would not receive the trophy if ACC President Mohsin Naqvi was present at the ceremony.
According to Indian media, in the past 12 months, both Indian men’s and women’s teams have refused to take trophies from Mohsin Naqvi. Led by Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian team took this step in 2025 due to political tensions.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated that the Indian team was ready to accept the trophy from ACC Deputy Chairman Khalid Al Zarooni, but Mohsin Naqvi did not accept this suggestion. As a result, BCCI decided not to participate in the ceremony.
This dispute is further escalating the political implications in Indian cricket. According to BCCI, they want to maintain their stance and hope that both trophies will be formally awarded.
It is noteworthy that the Indian cricket team also did not take the trophy after the 2025 Asia Cup when Mohsin Naqvi left the ceremony with the trophy, causing the controversy.
