London scientists create Bioloon, a balloon decomposing naturally in 9 months, reducing marine harm.
London: (RightNow) Scientists in London have developed a balloon called Bioloon, which decomposes naturally in 9 months. It is the world’s first balloon that breaks down without releasing harmful chemicals into the environment.
Researchers at Imperial College London have stated that while regular balloons take years to decompose, the Bioloon balloon does so in just 9 months. The aim is to reduce the harm caused to marine life by balloon waste.
A party organizer funded this project to mitigate marine environmental damage. The cost of Bioloon will not exceed that of regular balloons, and it is easy to inflate.
This balloon is made from biological components, decomposing without harmful chemical additives. Co-inventor Juliana Cumming explained that chemical processes in regular balloons hinder decomposition.
It is noteworthy that balloon fragments can be lethal to marine birds. Recent research indicates that ingesting balloon pieces increases the likelihood of bird mortality by 32 times.
