Jerusalem: (RightNow) The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, urges Israel to stop the E1 settlement plan in the occupied West Bank. She states that this plan could endanger the prospects of a two-state solution.

Last week, the Israeli government issued a tender for constructing over 1,200 residential units in the West Bank. According to the EU, this plan could separate the northern and southern parts of the West Bank.

Kaja Kallas demands Israel withdraw the tender and halt other settlement expansion plans in the occupied West Bank.

She warns that further settlement expansion will affect the geographical continuity of Palestinian territories. This could further limit the prospects for establishing an independent Palestinian state.

It is noteworthy that the E1 area is located between East Jerusalem and the West Bank. The European Union has previously expressed concern over the expansion of Israeli settlements.
