Norway: (RightNow) A boat operator in Norway’s Svalbard region has been fined 13 lakh Pakistani rupees. The fine was imposed after the boat’s fog horn woke a sleeping polar bear.

The boat was fined over $5,000, equivalent to 13 lakh Pakistani rupees, when its noise disturbed the polar bear’s sleep. The incident occurred at the beginning of August.

Governor Lars Fause stated that individuals on the boat saw the sleeping bear on land, and one person sounded the fog horn. This caused the bear to wake and move to another location.

The governor’s office deemed the act ‘unacceptable’ and imposed a $5,255 fine. The person who sounded the horn has agreed to pay the fine.

It is important to note that local laws prohibit the unnecessary pursuit or disturbance of polar bears.
