In 2025, Pakistan’s telecom sector paid Rs 278 billion in taxes, boosting digital economy stability.
Islamabad: (RightNow) According to a GSMA report, Pakistan’s digital economy is building on stable foundations. In 2025, the telecom sector contributed Rs 278 billion in taxes and fees to the national treasury.
The report states that women’s access to mobile internet in Pakistan increased from 45% to 53%. The gender gap in mobile internet usage decreased from 25% to 8%.
GSMA noted that spectrum reforms have improved the investment environment. However, heavy taxes on the telecom sector could affect the pace of investment.
Julian Gorman, head of GSMA, stated that Pakistan needs to invest in fiber networks and cloud data centers to meet the demands of an AI-based economy.
It is noteworthy that promoting digital inclusion for women and rural areas, with the cooperation of federal and provincial governments, can ensure the achievement of Digital Pakistan Vision 2030 goals.
