Islamabad: (RightNow) The government has collected over Rs 1,478 billion through petroleum and climate levies. This collection has helped the government successfully limit the fiscal deficit of the last financial year.

In the first 11 months of the 2025-26 fiscal year, the federal budget deficit stood at Rs 33.4 trillion, which is 2.6% of GDP. The collection from petroleum and climate levies played a significant role in this.

Under the IMF agreement, provinces generated a surplus revenue of Rs 13.1 trillion. This limited the overall fiscal deficit to Rs 20.3 trillion or 1.6% of GDP.

The government had set a target to limit the fiscal deficit to 3% of GDP for the entire fiscal year. This target was based on the revised estimates of the last financial year.

It is important to note that the Ministry of Finance has not yet released the complete financial data for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The final figures will be compiled in the coming weeks.
