Lahore: (RightNow) The Lahore High Court has banned the use of land allocated for schools, parks, and mosques in private housing societies for commercial or residential purposes.

The court stated that public land is a public trust, and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) cannot use it arbitrarily.

Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh directed the LDA to allocate, lease, or auction the relevant land within three months to establish schools according to the law.

This decision is significant as it addresses a 30-year issue of citizens not receiving educational facilities, which was a violation of basic rights.

It is noteworthy that a cooperative housing society filed a petition against LDA’s violations, claiming that the LDA did not approve the school plan.
