Lahore: (RightNow) A proposal to ban social media use for children under 16 has been presented in Punjab. The resolution calls for restrictions on social media accounts for minors.

Sarah Ahmed, Chairperson of the Child Protection Bureau, presented this resolution to the federal government. She stated that providing a safe digital environment for children is the state’s responsibility.

The resolution aims to protect children from cyberbullying and online sexual exploitation. However, Pakistan currently lacks a law that sets a minimum age for social media use.

This proposal comes as several countries implement strict social media laws for child protection. The UK and Australia have also enforced such regulations.

It is important to note that Pakistan does not have formal laws regarding children’s online activities, but the issue is under consideration in parliament and courts.
