Digital Payments Tripled, Prime Minister Expresses Satisfaction

Islamabad: (RightNow). Digital payments in Pakistan have tripled. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over the promotion of a cashless economy.

A meeting on the cashless economy was chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The progress of digital payments over the past year was reviewed in the meeting.

Shehbaz Sharif praised the performance of the economic team, stating that a cashless system will lead the economy towards transparency and growth. He emphasized encouraging merchants to use QR codes.

He stated that the number of mobile banking app users has reached 137 million. Payments for the Benazir Income Support Program are also being shifted to the digital system.

It is noteworthy that digital transactions increased by 11.9 billion from 2025 to 2026. Ninety-nine percent of NADRA’s payments have been digitized.
