Rio de Janeiro: (RightNow) Brazilian President Lula da Silva has labeled the US plan for the Strait of Hormuz as maritime piracy. He stated that if the US imposes heavy fees, it would be akin to piracy.

Lula da Silva clarified that such actions have historically been termed as piracy. He emphasized that a powerful country like the US should not adopt this approach.

The Brazilian President stressed that unnecessary financial burdens should not be placed on global maritime routes. He urged that respecting international trade and free maritime navigation principles is every country’s responsibility.

He further stated that the US should honor its history of fighting against piracy. According to him, such actions are equivalent to violating international laws.

It should be noted that US President Trump recently announced taking control of the Strait of Hormuz and imposing a 20% transit fee.
