Pakistan has launched its first livestock insurance scheme to provide financial compensation to farmers.
Karachi: (Right Now News) Pakistan has officially launched its first livestock insurance scheme.
According to a spokesperson for WWF Pakistan, the scheme has been initiated in Galiyat, where animal tagging will be conducted with the cooperation of an insurance company to monitor the project.
The spokesperson further stated that the scheme aims to provide financial compensation to farmers who lose livestock to leopard attacks, preventing retaliatory actions against wildlife.
In Khunjerab alone, 499 incidents were recorded in 2023 involving livestock and leopard attacks, while six snow leopards were killed between 2015 and 2023.
It is noteworthy that this insurance model aims to compensate the financial losses of poor communities in mountainous areas and stabilize their economy.
