Two oil tankers hit Iranian mines in the Strait of Hormuz; crew rescued safely. This incident reflects ongoing tensions between Iran and the US.
Tehran: (RightNow) The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announces two oil tankers hit mines south of the Strait of Hormuz. The incidents disabled both tankers’ engines, forcing the crew to abandon the ships.
According to the Iranian state news agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy states these tankers were on unauthorized routes. Iran has declared this route unauthorized, leading to explosions in the engine rooms.
The accidents resulted in severe fires on both tankers, leaving them stranded at sea. The tankers carried over 4.5 million barrels of crude oil. The crew abandoned the ships near the southern coast of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and is a crucial oil transit route. Iran has repeatedly warned that ships on unauthorized routes face risks.
It is noteworthy that the US and Israel initiated a conflict against Iran in February, and tensions persist despite a ceasefire. The conflict remains unresolved.
