The World Bank identifies political and economic risks in Pakistan’s loan programs, affecting their success.
Islamabad: (RightNow). The World Bank rates Pakistan’s two loan programs as moderately satisfactory. These programs include tax reforms and digital services, with a total value of $670 million.
According to the World Bank, the aim of these programs is to promote economic stability and improve public service delivery. The report states that increasing tax revenue to 15% of GDP is a key target.
The report highlights that political and administrative issues, economic uncertainty, and institutional weaknesses hinder the implementation of these programs. There is a need to address these issues at the government level.
The World Bank also emphasizes the importance of the $70 million Connected Punjab program to enhance digital services. This program aims to increase broadband and internet access.
It is noteworthy that the World Bank approved the PRIDE-MPA program on December 19, 2025. The program aims to increase national revenue and improve public service delivery through reforms at federal and provincial levels.
