Riyadh: (RightNow) Despite Saudi Arabia’s $83 billion defense budget, Houthi rebels’ missile and drone attacks remain a challenge for the kingdom. Saudi forces face these attacks despite having advanced weaponry.

In 2025, Saudi Arabia spent 6.5% of its GDP on defense, ranking eighth globally. The Saudi air defense includes American F-15 aircraft and the Patriot missile system.

Since capturing Yemen’s capital Sanaa in 2014, the Houthis have enhanced their missile and drone capabilities. Their missiles can reach Israel, complicating Saudi defense efforts.

Experts say defending Saudi Arabia’s vast territory is difficult, increasing pressure on missile defense reserves. Houthi attacks could threaten the Vision 2030 plan.

It is noteworthy that the Houthis had blockaded Saudi Arabia at Bab al-Mandab and are now targeting Saudi oil facilities, resulting in 12 fatalities.
