Islamabad: (RightNow) The government has announced a plan allowing the public to trade government bonds through the stock market. This initiative is part of the IMF program aimed at strengthening the bond market.

Under the IMF action plan, deadlines have been set to improve the bond market by September 2028. The goal of this plan is to make the bond market transparent and active.

The Ministry of Finance has stated that increasing the number of investors in the bond market will enhance the trading process.

Currently, banks own 78% of government securities, and government bonds constitute 62% of the banking sector’s assets.

It is important to note that this plan will reduce the cost of government borrowing and provide a better investment foundation for the private sector.
