Islamabad: (RightNow) A meeting of the Inter-Agency Coordination Committee, chaired by Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, approved the introduction of the hexavalent vaccine in Pakistan.

Mustafa Kamal stated that the transition to the hexavalent vaccine is a significant advancement for Pakistan’s immunization program. Efforts to access the vaccine have been ongoing for the past 14 months with Gavi and other global partners.

The hexavalent vaccine will protect children against six diseases. Its use will reduce the number of injections for children, increasing parents’ confidence.

The inclusion of the vaccine will enhance the effectiveness of the immunization system. It will help improve vaccine access in remote areas, reducing gaps in vaccination coverage.

It is noteworthy that efforts to improve vaccination coverage are ongoing with the support of Gavi Global Fund, WHO, UNICEF, and the Gates Foundation.
