Islamabad: (RightNow) The NDMA has issued a heavy rain alert for Potohar and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until September 17. Thunderstorms and rain are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Murree, and Galyat. There is a risk of local flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions.

According to the NDMA, heavy rains are also forecasted for Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts including Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Kohistan, and Mansehra. Rain is also expected in Abbottabad, Haripur, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, and surrounding areas.

The department has warned of potential flooding in low-lying areas and streams. Urban areas may also experience flooding. Residents are advised to stay away from low-lying areas and streams.

This alert is issued for public safety to prevent any potential hazards. The NDMA has advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel.
