PMDC states no ban on Afghan students in Pakistan’s medical education, with over 200 identified.
Islamabad: (RightNow) The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has issued a significant statement regarding Afghan students. The statement clarifies that there is no ban on any specific nationality, including Afghan students, for medical education in Pakistan.
According to the statement, all foreign students are subject to PMDC regulations and visa policy without discrimination. Over 200 Afghan medical students have been identified in Pakistan, of which only 22 are legally registered.
PMDC reports that out of the registered Afghan students, 14 have completed their education, while 8 will graduate next year. Verification of records and documents for the remaining 176 Afghan students is ongoing.
The statement emphasizes that obtaining a medical degree does not grant the right to reside or practice in Pakistan. A PMDC license and valid visa are required for practice in Pakistan.
It should be noted that unregistered students will not be considered legal under the medical education system. Affected students are being provided assistance to complete their paperwork.
