Islamabad: (RightNow) A fire in the nursery at PIMS Hospital resulted in the death of 14 newborns. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry stated that rescue teams arrived within 6 minutes and safely evacuated 19 individuals.

Talal Chaudhry mentioned that during the rescue operation, 7 children, 10 women, and 2 men were safely evacuated. Hospital officials were involved in the rescue operation, while the Assistant Commissioner and IG Islamabad reached the scene.

The Minister of State reported that the initial rescue report has been sent to the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister. The Prime Minister has ordered a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the incident.

It is important to note that the inquiry will review the closure of emergency doors, staff presence, and fire safety arrangements. Action will be taken against those responsible after the inquiry is completed.

Remember, a nursery is a room where newborns requiring intensive care are kept. A prompt rescue operation was initiated as soon as the incident was reported.
