Lahore High Court upholds ban on tree cutting to protect the environment, ensuring no harm from development projects.
Lahore: (RightNow) Lahore High Court has issued a significant ruling against environmental pollution and smog. The 264-page decision was authored by Justice Shahid Karim.
The court directed the government to ensure the protection of citizens’ environmental rights. It further stated that development projects should not harm the environment.
The court maintained the order to protect trees along the Lahore Canal. No tree cutting will be allowed for the Yellow Line project.
The court praised the environmental protection measures and recommended civil awards for members of the Water and Environment Commission.
It should be noted that Lahore High Court has taken numerous steps for environmental protection over the past eight years, including rainwater harvesting and greywater treatment.
