Sindh High Court dismisses Shazia Marri’s fake degree case after 13 years, declaring it inadmissible.
Karachi: (RightNow) The Sindh High Court has dismissed the fake degree case against PPP’s National Assembly member Shazia Marri after 13 years. The court declared the petition inadmissible.
The court stated that under the constitution, the High Court does not have the authority to disqualify a member of parliament. The petitioner’s lawyer claimed that Shazia Marri used a degree from a namesake student from 2002.
The court noted that a similar objection was raised during the 2018 elections. The Election Commission dismissed this objection in 2022. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal in 2023 after it was withdrawn.
Shazia Marri’s lawyer stated that the matter had already been discussed before the Election Commission, which had dismissed the petition. The court emphasized that the authority to declare someone truthful or honest lies with judicial tribunals.
It is noteworthy that Shazia Marri’s degree issue has been a topic of political debate for years. The petition was declared inadmissible in light of Supreme Court orders for constitutional petitions.
