Lahore: (RightNow) Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari states that fake news is spreading on social media. She emphasizes the necessity of curbing fake news and asserts that defaming others is not journalism.

Uzma Bukhari, speaking with CPNE officials, highlights the increasing trend of abusive language and baseless accusations on social media. She insists that accusers must provide evidence.

The provincial information minister stresses that the perspective of the concerned party should be obtained before broadcasting news. She mentions that YouTubers abroad are propagating against the country.

Uzma Bukhari describes journalism as a highly responsible profession and notes that the government is taking steps for journalists’ welfare. She advises against glorifying social media users who make accusations.

It is noteworthy that Kazim Khan has stated that CPNE has formulated a policy against fake news. He adds that a Press Freedom Committee has been established to prevent misinformation.
